MenuMind ("the app," "we," "our") is an iOS app by Sachin Kumaran that digitizes restaurant menus and receipts using artificial intelligence, and helps you build orders and split bills. This policy explains what data the app processes, where it goes, and your choices. The short version: MenuMind has no user accounts, does not collect your name, email, contacts, or location, and does not sell or share your personal information.
| Data | Purpose | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Photos of menus and receipts you choose to scan | To digitize them into text (items, prices, categories) | Sent over an encrypted connection through our server (AWS) to third-party AI model providers via OpenRouter (e.g., Google, OpenAI, and other model providers) for processing. We do not store your photos on our servers; they remain saved locally on your device. |
| Your dietary preferences and allergen list (if you set them) | To flag menu items that may contain your allergens and to personalize suggestions | Stored on your device. When you use allergen detection or recommendations, menu item names together with your allergen/preference list are sent to the AI providers above solely to generate the result. |
| An anonymous device identifier (Apple App Attest key ID) | To verify requests come from a genuine copy of the app and to enforce fair-usage limits (e.g., monthly scan quotas) | Stored with monthly usage counters in our AWS database (United States). Counters are automatically deleted after roughly 60 days. This identifier is not linked to your name or any account. |
| Analytics and diagnostics | To understand feature usage, fix crashes, and improve performance | Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance): event counts (e.g., "menu scanned"), device model, OS version, app version, crash logs, and subscription tier (free/pro). No advertising identifiers and no precise location. |
| Purchases | MenuMind Pro subscriptions | Handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. |
Your saved restaurants, menus, menu photos, orders, split-bill history, ratings, and preferences are stored locally on your device only. Deleting the app deletes this data.
The app relies on the following processors, each receiving only the data described in section 1: Amazon Web Services (server infrastructure, United States), OpenRouter and its underlying AI model providers (menu/receipt/allergen processing), Google Firebase (analytics and crash reporting), and Apple (payments, app distribution). Their handling of data is governed by their respective privacy policies.
Because MenuMind is account-less, most of your data is under your direct control on your device. You may contact us at any time to ask what data we hold, or to request deletion of server-side data associated with your device.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know, correct, and delete personal information, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA.
Canadian residents (PIPEDA): you have the right to access and correct personal information we hold, and to withdraw consent by discontinuing use of the app and requesting deletion.
To exercise any of these rights, email onlysachinmax@gmail.com.
Data described above is processed in the United States (and wherever the listed providers operate). By using the app you understand your data may be processed outside your country of residence.
MenuMind is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Allergen detection is generated by AI from menu text and is provided for convenience only. It may be incomplete or wrong. It is not medical advice — always confirm ingredients directly with the restaurant.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
